Statement

My education at UTampa has been impactful through the courses and professors I have engaged with, and it has expanded my horizons to the world of digital media and computer science. In my four years here, I have had the pleasure of studying the unique intersection of creative practice and technical implementation, which the combination of the FMX and Computer Science departments has most significantly shaped. Specifically, courses like FMX 310 – Creative Coding, FMX 311 – UI/UX, and the advanced sequence in the Computer Science curriculum, including CSC 301 – Advanced Data Structures and Algorithms and CSC 230 – Software Design and Engineering. These courses have provided the best foundation and understanding of these subjects and this field, giving me the tools not just to design media but to create it from the ground up. The complex coding requirements taught me analytical problem-solving and opened my eyes to the world of computers. At the same time, the New Media professors emphasized critical thinking about user experience and aesthetic execution, allowing me to realize my current position as a designer capable of handling technical delivery. The combination of the two fields has provided me with a well-rounded education, covering multiple areas and expanding my knowledge well beyond what I could have imagined.
